Radiation oncologists utilise radiation therapy to kill cancer cells and decrease tumour growth while causing minimal damage to healthy tissue nearby. This therapy is sometimes recommended as the first cancer treatment by doctors especially for organ conservation. Other times, people receive radiation therapy following surgery or medication-based therapies such as chemotherapy. This is known as adjuvant therapy. It focuses on cancer cells that remain after the initial therapy. When it is not possible to eradicate all cancer, doctors may employ radiation therapy to decrease tumours and alleviate symptoms. This is referred to as palliative radiation therapy. Palliative radiation therapy may alleviate symptoms such as pressure, discomfort, and nausea. The purpose is to raise a person's life quality.
